Term is over for me, and I thought this would be a fun thing to do.

I don’t come from a traditional science background, I wasn’t a brilliant scientist at school, and I was curious about how science is being taught in schools now. Basically, I think this opportunity for students to chat to ‘scientists’, and for us to chat to you is great, and I’m jealous we didn’t have this sort of thing (we barely had the internet… )

I decided to do this because, even though I had some good teachers at school who helped me out, I never really had a chance to talk “real science” with anyone. It was only when I got to Uni that I had a chance to discover new things, chat about science with some interested and interesting people, and find out more about the real world of science. So, as I never had the chance when I was your age, I decided to try and give you guys the chance to see what science is really all about. Hopefully it works! 🙂

My friend suggested I do it when she found out she couldn’t. I love speaking to the public about my research and showing that scientists aren’t all egg-heads or weirdo’s who want to do mean things to the world (I am thinking of big name movies my 6 and 8 year old children watch). If I can help one person want to do science and love it, I will be very happy.

I love explaining what I do, I love science and I never had a chance when I was younger to talk with a ‘real’ scientist.

The event was recommended to me by a member of staff at my university. I thought it sounded like a great use of modern technology to talk about science with the public.

The internet is a powerful tool for everything from social networking to shopping, so it should be perfect to help teach and inspire people. As young people today (I’m making myself sound old!) have grown up with internet technology, hopefully they will find the event easy to follow and enjoy! I hope that I can help to make it fun and inspirational.
