It depends which type of cancer. 90% of children survive childhood leukaemia, 90% of people with skin cancer survive, 80% of people with breast cancer survive (to 5 years after they are told they have cancer). Overall 50% of people survive cancer (at 5 years after being told they have it) but that includes some people who within 5 years of being told they have cancer may die of something else (such as a heart attack or old age). Only 1% of all cancer affect young people (people under 24 years of age) and one-third of cancers happen in people over 75 years of age.

Not enough yet… my limited experience with cancer has taught me that there are many different varieties of cancer, and some are still much more dangerous to have than others. It’s by doing important cancer-fighting research like Barbara’s that we’ll learn more about stopping cancer from doing so much damage.
