I wanted to be a medical doctor and I didn’t get good enough grades to go to medical school when doing my A’levels. I remembered I really liked genetics and so went to the University of Aberystwyth in West Wales to study genetics. I knew I liked human genetics the most and so when I looked at a few different PhD projects I choose the one on leukaemia. I love being a scientist and am glad I did genetics at University. Sometimes life doesn’t always work out the way you first plan but as long as your Plan B is fun, then that’s cool too.
