I grow cancer cells in tissue culture. This involves putting cancer cells in a watery solution containing salts, proteins, serum, nutrients and then putting them in the dark at 37oC in a wet (humidified) atmosphere with 5% carbon dioxide – just like inside the human body. We can then look at how T cells, taken from the blood of cancer patients or normal donors can be stimulated to kill the tumour cells.
